I recieved an email with several files attached that the sender said were saved in Microsoft Outlook format.
When I click on the attached file/s to download a box comes up 'file download - security warning' and it says type: unknown file type. I haven't been able to open the files with any program.
I've never used Outlook but have recently installed it.
Any help would be appreciated.

It's quite likely that they have a more recent version of Outlook or Office than you have.
Check with the sender which version they have. If there is a mismatch, it's easy to download a conversion program from the MS support website, so that they can convert it before sending it to you.0 -
When you save a file in Outlook it will usually save as Either a .doc (Word Document) or a .html/.htm (Web Page) so assuming you have Word installed you should be able to open them.
Alternatively I think that Outlook Express saves things differently, is that what you have?
Russ- Google is your friend, use it :rolleyes:0 -

Still having a problem with this.
It's Microsoft Outlook I have installed.
I right-click the file and properties and it just says type of file: file.
Any chance I could send the file over to someone to see if they can open it?0 -
Outlook (as opposed to Outlook Express) sets Security which prevents attachments being opened.
Tools, Options. Security tab. Change the Zone to Internet and follow the prompts.0 -

Did you click on "Zone Settings" and then adjust the slider?0

Sounds like when they saved the file they removed the file extension, so now Windows doesn't know what to do with it. Try renaming to xxx.dat?A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0
