Hi Folks,
My work want to purchase a digital camcorder and have, for some reason, asked me to research it and make a recommendation.
I don't know very much about them, so could anyone recommend a reasonably priced, but reasonably reliable and easy to use model? Bear in mind that this camcorder with predominantly be used by a man who knows so little about camcorders that he has asked me for advice!!!
Cheers,
Stacey

I have a 'Canon 750i' which I love It costs £300 at amazon uk. It records onto Mini dv (like an audio casette but much smaller) It takes still pictures on a memory card as well. It downloads to the tv or onto a computer so the images can be edited. It has a 22x optical lens.
Which Magazine gave their 'Best Buy' to the Sony DCR HC40ES. Apparently the picture and audio quality are better. It has a 10x optical lens and costs £380 plus P & P from Amazon . Again Mini DV.
Having said that... there are lots of really good digital camcorders out there and a trip to your local camera shop will prove useful. First establish what your firm want to use it for and what they intend to do with the images.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

Have you considered a mpeg4 camera, there normally a lot smaller than a DV camera and can hold around 30 minutes of video despending on memory card. A friend of mine has own made by Samsung, its a video camera and takes very good digital shots too onto memory cards.

I have a JVC DV camera model JVC GR-D73 its fantastic dv camera with image stabilisher and excellent zoom. I import dv into pc using firewire and add effects to enc hance the video using transitions before finally birning to dvd-r
Camera also takes photos but tbh its not much better quality than camera phone but larger in size 1024x768 resolution.
