Paying off a credit card please help???

Can you make an offer on a credit card debt eg if you owe them £4000 can you offer them £2500 and then they accept this and then they close the account!
Is this possible? Has anyone done it? Does it affect your credit rating?

Thanks in advance

You can make a Full and Final (F&F) settlement on a debt broadly thus

you stop paying the monthly payments
after awhile they default the debt
they mark your credit record accordingly and so trash your credit record for 6 years
maybe they will seek a CCJ or charging order on your property (if you have one)
after a while they will sell the debt off to a DCA
after a year or so the DCA may be willing to accept a F&F settlement
