Connecting Sky to a phone line

We get letters constantly too. In the past year we've had at least five letters. I personally don't see why we shouldn't keep it plugged in but DH has a big issue with it and every time we get a letter he rings them up and gives them a right earfull!
According to a Sky installer who lives in our area they get cranky about it to prevent the problem of people sharing their connection with their next door neighbour!? That sounds like a load of rubbish. The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0 -
I don't think it rings up once per month even if it is connected(but never let a good bit of spying paranoia put people off some good email hoax/chain letter style worrying). You can set up within one of the menus so that it prompts you for a pin number anytime it tries to connect to the phone line, without that it can't dial out. The box holds a certain amount of 'credit' for using Box office type functions(in case there really was a problem dialling out when you wanted to order a film) and once it reaches it's limit it dials out to load the details up to Sky to add on to your bill0
