Mould on blinds...

I am ashamed to admit this... I have mould on my vertical blinds... Not wooden, fabric... :(

Its all around the bottom where they brush against the window and the condensation in the mornings... i tried to nip the problem in the bud but alas have failed!

Its black/grey mould and I have tried using a cloth with washing up liquid, vanish, bio detergent yet nothing seems to remove the mould completely...

Anyone got any ideas? The thought of replacing them makes me shudder and my purse run far far away...

Thanking you in advance...

  • Probably only a dliute bleach solution will do it, but that's likely to bleach the fabric of the blinds to a degree as well.

  • Good plan that actually!! Thanks very much... They are off white blinds (prob due to dirt) so a wee bleach solution might just brighten them up!!

    Thanks!
  • I use bleach and then I take my blinds down during the winter it allows more sun in.

  • Me too! No shame..

I took them down (they just unclipped at the top) and dunked them in the bath with boiling water and bleach for a good few hours. Came up lovely!

Don't make my mistake though and dry them folded over in the airing cupboard, because you'll have to spend hours ironing them!

    Best of luck!

  • The bath!! What a genius idea!! I have been standing there holding them whilst they dunk in and out of the water in my kitchen sink! *DOH*

I deffo won't be folding them either... I got out my 6 spares from the cupboard, and lordy lord they are creased!! I'll lay them over my clothes horse (minus clothes obviously) outside in this glorious sunshine we have had (well my neck of the woods anyway) to dry!

Thanks ever so much for your help peeps!! :j
