  • My Experience with FirstDirect at an HSBC branch was that you could take as much as you had out without notice needed.

I do remember taking my chequebook and Passport as ID though. Also once they asked me to ring a phone number to get a security code that they would confirm.

If in doubt call the branch.

for a large amount like that i would be inclined to give at least 24 hours notice so they have the money ready and available.

dan - I think you'd be better advised asking the bank themselves, rather than us - we have been known to be wrong.

Bank Draft isn't instant ... it's a cheque, but drawn by the Bank therefore takes the standard time to clear. You'll need to ask the seller if he willl take it as 'instant' as it's 'guaranteed' funds?

You'd be totally unwise to anticipate getting £13k in cash over the counter .. you need to give them notice.

If it's a private sale - it's really one or the other. Or you could CHAPS it into his account .. and split the (up to) £30 cost with him (but needs arranging in advance - then trigger it with a call once you're OK with the car) If a dealership - your Debit Card is the safest bet ... but you'll have several security questions to answer via your Bank.
