Payment Protection Cover

Hi,
I have 2 cards at the mo. MBNA £10900 and Cap1 £4000.
My wages halfed around 2000 and my lifestyle took a while to catch up.
I'm now running on minimum payments while I free up some cash to get them paid off, but a sizeable chunk of the payments, £80 on the MBNA and £40 on the Cap1 are Payment Protection cover.
How easy is it to cancel this cover and is there a cheaper independant alternative alternative.
I am in very secure employment, I'll never be rich but I'm not as stessed as I used to be.
Look forward to your replies.....
