As i have always understood it they can be transported fine on the side, but let them stand back in the vertical position for about 12 hours before you turn it on.

We just got a new freezer and we were told not to turn it on for 4 hours due to letting the gas settle0

Was always told to tell customers to leave it 24 hours to settle (when working at an electrical retailer)Green and White Barmy Army!0

Hi I asked this question a couple of years ago and the answer was that you can lay it down or rather transport it on its side, then you must leave it in its standing up position for 24hrs to allow the gas to settle. We did that and have had no trouble whatso ever. The second hand freezer is still going strong. " Well it was 5 mins ago".I have just brought a second hand fridge freezer

Apparently there is one side that it is better to lay it on, something to do with the compressor/ how the pipes run, but I can't remember which side that is! I saw it somewhere on the web.
I found it , it was on Fridge Doctor, you should lay it with the "suction line" pointing down. The suction line is the largest diameter pipe coming out of the compressor.0
