When do you get the powerseller invite?

Hello,

My sales over the last 90 days were over £2250 a few weeks ago which I believe entitles me to bronze powerseller status (average of £750 over 3 months). Just wondering when I will get the invite. Been a bronze powerseller before but then I just stopped selling so I lost it

Thanks in advance :money:

Any day now - the revisions tend to come out in between the 10th and 15th of each month.

You also need to be a registered business seller to become a PS, and shortly it will also depend on maintaining all DSR ratings over 4.5 for a 12 month period.

What with the other recent changes and the level playing field particularly bumpy, the term "powerseller" may be a thing of the past!

Really!? I used to be a powerseller without being a registered business. Is this due to changes eBay are making?

£2250 sales in that short time may give you some explaining to do with HMRC, unless you can prove that everything you sold was a personal possession.

The change was announced 2 weeks ago - http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200801291504052.html and in my opinion is one of the best moves that ebay have made in a long time. Business registration will do more to improve the buyer experience than any of the frikkin' around with seller stars and feedback.

By registering as a Business, a seller has to adhere to more consumer protection laws such as the Sale of Goods Act 1979, the Distance Selling Regulations, the Unfair Commercial Practices Directives, the Consumer Protection Act 1987, and the e-Commerce Regulations 2002.

That'll separate the men from the boys!

  • Good to hear, so powerseller will mean something.

I got offered powerseller after selling a few things over a few months. I had about 30 feedback, seemed a bit easy

There's an awful lot of spam 'powerseller invite' emails out there so be careful if you get any .

The requirements are either £750 sales based on a 3month period or an average of 100 sales a month for an average of 3 months for the basic power seller level.

  • I hope there are plenty of non PSs left after all the Ebay changes as I do my best to avoid buying anything from them, by and large I trust them less than the average seller as they appear to be able to do what they like on Ebay and no amount of reporting of them does any good.

It's fair to say that a LOT of powersellers will lose their PS logo, simply as they will not register as businesses. These are the chancers that try to trade underneath the HMRC radar, and in contravention of consumer law which all powersellers will have to adhere to from March.

I mentioned elsewhere though that you may already be buying from Powersellers, but not know about it. The PS logo is a voluntary symbol that can be turned on and off at will by the seller, and I know many that do this. I also know that it's rare for a PS to only have one selling account - I've running 3 selling accounts, and about 8 or 9 buying accounts. Only one is at PS status, although I do display the logo.

Also, I think I would be more concerned about the "failed" powersellers that are culled over the coming months - a lot of these will be the troublesome sellers that give the rest of the genuine powersellers a bad name, but now they wil be mingling amongst the private sellers. Hardly the sort of "non-powerseller" you want to be buying from, is it?!

Just to be clear powerseller status has nothing at all to do with being a business or registering with HMRC. Anyone regardless of PS status who buys to sell needs to be registered with HMRC they do not at present though have to show as a business they can legitimately 'trade' as a private seller as long as they pay their taxes. It is also possible in some circumstances to achieve PS status without being a trader (less common but it is possible).

I am on record saying I do not like the changes that ebay are about to make but I can see why they are doing some of it.Buyers have been moaning that they are being scammed or that sellers will not refund faulty items and such like. By making it compulsory for sellers who want PS status benefits to be registered with them as a business seller they do in fact give those buyers more rights under basic UK law. It doesn't actually makemuch diference to the PS though, it is just a change of status on ebay and does not affect HMRC at all.

I got an invite to join the powerseller program this morning (genuine email in my ebay messages), it's a bit of a shame as I was thinking of quiting ebay
