problem setting up wireless router

We have a windows me 64mb computer connected to blueyonder broadband. My daughter has a toshiba satellite 4070cdt laptop. I was advised by PC world to buy a 54Mbps wireless keychain adapter, a buffalo 54mpbs wieless router, and a ethernet 32bit pci card, to set up a wireless system.
I don't know a lot about computers so my nephew who does is setting it all up for me.The main computer keeps freezing when trying to connect to the internet, any ideas. If it is really complicated I will take it to be done by an expert. How much can I expect to pay for someone else to do it ?
My nephew seems to think that although my computer is 64mb, when you look at system properties it shows that the computer is only 63MB and the minimum operating requirements for the router is 64mb. How could this happen?

64Mb is really nowhere near enough these days - you should see about getting that upgraded to 256Mb asap (you should be able to get that for around a tenner).
Its quite normal for the system to show less than is installed, I wouldn't worry about that at all.
If you do want to pay someone to set it all up for you, if you look for a small one-man show, you shouldn't have to pay more than say £30 or £40 - possibly less.
However, the freezing issue sounds to me like a simple lack of memory - so I'd be reasonable confident that upping that will solve it. The only other thing that may cause it would be the drivers, but in any event I'd get the memory to rule that out first.0
