Accepting a Disputed deposit

A brief bit of background.
Have recently moved out of a rented house and the landlord is wanting to keep £841.47 (out of £1,500 deposit) for three reasons:
- £600 of damage for various items
- £237.92 for outstanding rent (this was due to a misunderstanding of service charges from 15 months ago which LL has only just picked up on"
- £3.95 council tax, we moved out a day later than originally scheduled.
We have no issue with the bottom two charges but feel the £600 is a gross over-exaggeration of the actual cost of damages. We are currently getting the LL to makes a list of how this £600 is broken down and if neccesary dispute it.
However, in the meantime do we accept the amount of deposit that the LL feels they owe us which is £658.53 (£1500-841.47) or do we say now that we disagree with the damage breakdown. In effect, will accepting this amount now affect our chances or getting some of the disputed amount back?
The LL wants to keep all the deposit for the time being but I would obvisouly rather the undisputed bit of the deposit back.

as long as you accept part of the deposit monies in writing with "this is not a full and final settlement payment" i see no reason why you should not take the part payment.0
