I need a hug!

Well it's a while since have been in here! I used to pop in now and again a year or so ago but not been doing too badly. Although need a bit of a hug and some support, had a rubbishy last week or two, two poorly kids and a poorly me then told am being made redundant at the end of March. I'm consoling myself with the fact that the last week has sucked sooo much that the next few weeks have GOT to be great to balance it out! :D

Okay, down to business. I was off sick from mid-October to end of December. My pay has been down by about half (not great company sick pay where I work unfortunately.) I checked my bank this morning to find the standing order for my rent has been returned unpaid and I haven't got enough money to pay it.

When I returned to work I had to reduce my hours so I could take DD1 to school. I'm in receipt of Working Tax Credits, Child Tax Credits, Child Benefit, Housing Benefit and a small amount of Council Tax Benefit.

I'm a single parent and don't get any maintenance from the ex as he's not working at the mo, though he's hoping to get a job very soon.

I've slipped a bit with my moneysaving over the last few months, I'm not extravagant by any stretch of the imagination, but it's little everyday spends and shopping bills that seem to take up some of my leftover cash so I need to be more careful. I also have an unsecured loan which takes up a big wedge of my cash each month that I took out for ex when we were together to pay off his debts (a small amount was mine but the majority of it was to pay off stuff he racked up) and he doesn't contribute because he's not working, and recently got a letter for an overpayment that needs paying from Tax Credits from our joint claim which I can see I'm going to get lumbered with. I'm upset - I know he really can't afford to pay anything right now but I feel really bitter because I've met a new someone and we've spoken about moving in together maybe in the next year and I know I could be putting that money I'm paying for the loan towards saving for a deposit but I feel like I'm still tied to my ex gfinancialy, obviously as regards the girls but with all this stuff that needs paying back:(

I'm going to post an SOA (gawd a long time since I did that!) but really I'd just like a hug and something to say to my landlord about the rent. I am going to ask my parents (hate to do it but can pay them back on Friday) to borrow the cash so that should be okay, but obviously need to sort that out.

I think I feel rather more awkward about it because ex moved out nearly a year ago so it's just been me paying rent but ex's name still on tenancy. I didn't say anything because when me and ex moved in, we only just got the house as the letting agency were unsure whether we could afford the rent (he was a full-time student at the time) and I didn't want to end up being chucked out.

Right, I'll stop talking now! :D

I don't have any advice but I really feel for you. I hope everything works out. I know it's hard asking parents for money but they wouldn't want you to struggle so go ahead. I'm sure they'll be great about it.

    Thanks!

Been proactive this morning. Phoned up tax credits to let them know of my change of hours, and posted letter to council re: housing benefit to let them know of my change of hours also.

Tried to contact parents re: borrowing money but no answer so off to try that again shortly.

Sold some stuff on ebay last week so got to post that off, and feeling good because they sold, am going to pop some more stuff on in a bit. Got loads of bits and bobs have been meaning to put on there, lots of baby stuff, so whilst feeling a little more positive am going to do that.

Going to have a storecupboard week, not doing a big shop but going to stock up on fruit and veggies and use up cupboard stuff. Going to get cracking on some meal planners this week and make shopping lists again.

*tries to keep momentum going* :D

    Hi Jo:hello:

I'm sorry to hear of the problems your having at the moment. I'll look out for your SOA and I'll see if I can think of anything when I've seen it.

In the meantime, here's a :grouphug:

I believe that some :EasterBunmight help too.
  • Sorry to hear you are down Jo.

  • Hi joe,
sorry you're feeling low (squashy hug icon)

If you can't get hold of your parents, why don't you speak to the landlord and explain that there has been a bit of a mix up and ask if you can pay on Friday. As it's only a couple of days, he should be ok. I've had to do that before and it has been fine (even with the grumpy landlord i had at the time).

Don't really know what to say - send a link to this page by email to the Landlord. If he has a heart, he will understand.

Hang in there, as you said things can only get better from now on.
