Thinking of selling some of my books...

Hello
Former poster and regular lurker here.....
I've been eyeing up my books for a while and thinking about selling them (well some of them).
I seem to have collected a lot of stuff by one author (crime fiction) and was thinking it may be useful (for space as well as cash) to sell them and use any money made to clear my last bit of debt on the credit card.
They aren't rare or 'collectable' as such - so not sure if it would be worth it.

Check out the prices they sell for on www.amazon.co.uk I used to sell mine on ebay but have found amazon a lot better, you can list them for 60 days (I think) if they dont sell you dont get charged, you can relist them as many times as you like. When you go to list your books they also let you know how much you will recieve when the book is sold (but remember you will have to take postage off of this) so you can work out whether it is worthwhile
Or there is www.greenmetropolis.com where you recieve £3 for every book sold and a set amount goes to the woodland trust to plant new trees (I did use these a while ago and it seemed quite slow as the operate on a first listed, first sold and also you have to reach a certain threshold before you can withdraw your money)finally debt free and want to keep it that way!!0 -
Hi sm. Why dont you look them up on ebay/amazon marketplace and see how much they are selling for if at all. You can then make your mind up. Also maybe a carboot could be in order although i am unsure you will get a lot there for them.0

Hi.
I did the same a few years back; it more than paid for ALL my holiday money for a trip to New York.
Plus less to move when I moved in with the OH.0 -
Hi SkintMonkey, I did this recently. I have collected books from 2 of my favourite authors and have read every single one. But they are sat in the bookcase and will probably never get read again (unlike hubby who can read books over and over again). So I put some on Ebay recently and they sold. Do what the other posters have suggested and see what's selling. Good luck£2 savers club. No.90. Aim £500.0

Thanks guys. My husband doesn't think I'll get much for them - they are Ruth Rendell books (so probably loads 'out there' anyway) - was a bit of a big fan and all of one shelf of my bookcase is full with her books!
Will have a look at Amazon....0 -
Can I just say thankyou skintmonkey, I went to check my greenmetropolis account and found I had some money I had forgotten about, its now on its way to me

also just to say if the books are up on amazon for 1p dont bother (unless of course you want to make a tiny profit, I did once and after postage and before packaging/transport etc I made a whole 2p) a carboot sale may be better in that case although be prepared to bring most home!!
Last time I took books I charged £1 for 3 and sold a fair few, on the way home I realised the box had 25p each which is what I must have tried on another occasion and on that occasion hardly sold any

Car boot selling can be good as, at least, it all gets done there and then without the need to parcel things up. Of course, you may get a pound a book or something like that but it's relatively hassle free.
Or, batch them up on Ebay and sell in groups by author.
Or, swap them on readitswapit.com for some new ones.Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0 -
Just thought that we have an electronic 'notice board' here at work on outlook where I can post stuff to sell (feel a bit daft for forgetting that!). Not sure how much to price them at though....0
