Warning! Don't close American Express card!

Just a warning - probably everyone knew this but me. Don't close your American Express platinum card account after the first three months (when you stop getting 5% cashback). If you cancel before the first anniversary, you LOSE YOUR CASHBACK! Fortunately I just noticed this in the small print in time to avoid doing exactly that.

thanks, good to know, I have one and I didn't realise this either...0

Why not use the Amex for the whole year? After the 3 months at 5%, you will probably be in the 1% cashback band which is fine and if you spend a lot, you could reach 1.5% cashback territory before the end of the year. Also remember it isn't actually cash back but a credit towards your 13th Amex bill.0

I also have an AMEX card and wondered if anyone could tell me how you know exactly when the 5% has finished. Is it 3 months from the day you apply, the day you activate the card or from the first purchase on it? xIf marriage means you fell in love, does divorce mean you climbed back out?:rotfl:0
