Not paid gas or electric since we moved in...

Hi,
We moved into our rented house on the 15th september last year. The LL didn't take meter readings for gas or electric, and we didn't either. Due to various things that's happend, we have never got round to taking meter readings or paid any gas or electric. Now it's time to sort this out, but I have no idea what to do, and where to start - I usually leave all this to my GF, because she's good with money and everyhing (I put all my wages in her account, so it's controlled), but she's too busy at the moment to sort this out. Do we find out who's supplying the current gas/electric and contact them and pay? or do we contact the cheapest supplier, and pay them for the energy we've use? and what do we do if we're unsure about the original meter readings?
Many thanks for any help or suggestions.
Regards

You need to find out from the LL who the suppliers are , and call them
go from there really as in switiching etc

and what do we do if we're unsure about the original meter readings?
When I had a dispute over a bill that was wrong because the estimated previous reading was wrong (ie I couldn't correct the reading as it was in the past) they had me note down meter readings before and after a 10 day period and then used my usage in that period to guess what the total would have been.0
