  • I think the fact that you are even asking the question gives you your reply! - You aren't that happy with what you have been quoted. Maybe now that you have a fixed quote you could try sourcing the taps, shower, tiles etc. yourself and pay the guy you trust to do the fitting. At least you both will be getting something out of the deal and you would save some dosh !!! Good Luck!
I may not have thanked you but I meant to, honest!

The company we got the expensive qoute for is not one of those outfits with salesmen on comminsion but I know what you mean. We did go into a Dolphin Showroom and asked about a specific range they had leaflets about everywhere. The sale lady did not know what I was talking about so I pointed to the leaflet. She the range was new I had to ask if they would get any in she said she did not know. Was just about to ask something else when she decided to answer her phone. She was so rude nearly ran out of there.

I would be quite happy to source everything myself if only I could find a reliable fitter problem is we dont know anyone in the trade. Also not very DIY minded unfortunately.

Thanks for all the suggestions it is really helpful.

I have PM'ed MNA78 about the fitter hopefully I can speak to then.

I am in the process of having my shower all redone. Got various quotes but the guy who sounded the most knowledgeable got the job.
It is around £2200 which includes shower, door, tiling.
Was surprised by the cost to be honest but all the quotes were around the same amount.

Don't you know any tradesmen who could do it over 3/4 days between them. I bought a Novellini Star R silver frame 900x1200 shower with solid stone tray (even the fitters commented they'ed never carried one as heavy). Ceiling, white strips with mirrored seperators, electrics, was done first day along with pipe work supplies and waste, wall and floor tiling plus tray fitted the following day, sink, shower profiles and screens fitted along with facings and beading. All in under £2000.
WC was kept connected so the family were not caught short while work was ongoing.

    Thanks
We have been around pricing up the items we want and it comes to about £5k just need to price up the tiles. Have been talking to a fitter from here so hopefully will have a full quote very soon, which will be a lot less than £17k.

My electrician took a day & charged £150, tiler is £60 a day,

 Working 5 days a week, and taking 4 weeks holiday a year I don't know any qualified electrician that earns £36K pa, not any tiler that only earns £14.4K pa if they work the same:rotfl:
