Should i pay for a service??

Help anyone!!
I bought an 06 plate from Peugeot and it had a service stamp in the book (not dated) when i bought it. Should i of expected the car to have had a full service?
Basically i bought the car 01 November 2007. "3 months ago say". They say i now have to service the car? Whats all that about? I paid £6,400 for the car.
They say every 20,000k or every 2 years which ever comes first. On purchase, the car did 9,800k.

Are they ripping me off? should they do the service Free of Charge ? Any advice please?
Thank you

The service is now due, as the car is 2 years old, the stamp in the book is likely to be the PDI.

A wiser man may have bargained for the service to have been done on purchase.

Why do you think they should service a car when you've owned it for 3 months?

Hi, because i expected them to of had the car serviced before they sold it. I geot free road tax off them as a wiser man.

At which point in the contract was the car to be serviced? If it was included then it should of been done.

The car wasn't 2 years old, it hadn't done the prescribed mileage so unless you requested it as part of the contract it wasn't going to have been serviced.

Afraid Keith is correct. Service was not due when you bought and is now.

To keep warranty intact you really want to get it done this time and probably until it has done 3 years. After which you can maybe cut a few corners on servicing but still get it checked and at least an oil service done at least one a year or after 10,000 miles which ever comes first. I wouldn't wait 20,000 miles or 2 years for an oil service if I was expecting the engine to last.

Long service intervals are for the benefit of fleet buyers to the detriment of the car.
  • The service stamp in the book dated when you bought it would have been their PDi service, whioch was to make sure that everything was ok and would get you to your next service...
  • Find a local Peugeot specialist and get them to do it instead. Half the labour rates.

I think people are very sceptical of long life servicing, but overlook the fact that cars are far better built now, and that oil technology is far superior now. I run my car on long life, and have no issues, the main benefit being that I only have to visit the dealer every 18 - 20 K I also have friends who have run on long life servicing in excess of 150K with no issues.

Why? It wasn't due for another 3 months. If you wanted it servicing, you should have bartered.
