Yes I asked Egg exactly the same thing and have it recorded on my secure messages that there is NO interest charged on the bt fee. (Think I might just print it off, not that I don't trust them or anything....!)0

That would be wise, since I seem to recall secure messages 'self-destruct' after 90 days.phoebe03cat wrote: »(Think I might just print it off, not that I don't trust them or anything....!)0 -

Thanks for the calculator link.
Its all a bit financially complicated when you price in £3k unused ISA allowance this year and 2 * £3.6k ISA allowance from April.
I think £200 is a conservative estimate with a B/E time of 6 months.0 -

I can only transfer 95% of limit so I will transfer £14,250 into my current account tomorrow.
Unless anyone can give me a reason why I shouldn't? Since I have not used Egg for a couple of years are there any nasty surprises waiting me?
Nice to know they are looking after the well thought of customers like myself and many others.0 -
AND.... The fact that Egg will itemize the balance transfer fee - £427.50 in your case - on your statement and charge you interest on this fee (at standard rate) throughout the life of your balance transfer!
As all payments are applied to paying off the zero percent BT first, there is no way you can avoid paying this additional interest on the BT fee. A weasel practice if you ask me.
All in all a triple whammy for the OP
That used to be the case but they actually stopped doing that in Feb 2007. It now accrues interest at the same rate as whatever the BT does, 0% in this case.0 -
Any advice please?
I applied for a HSBC card today on the net but got rejected. I wanted to get the card in order to do a balance tranfer from VANQUIS creditcard of up to 1k.
I have checked my credit score and its says FAIR maybe because I missed 2 mobile payments despite I dont have debts. I do have 1 loan of 580pounds to be paid of without interests till July this year 2008.
There is no problem with my Experian credit score except the 2 missed payments with Orange network.
I really need a balance transfer and a descent creditcard. CAN I APPLY to another card like EGG? What do I DO??
Any comments appreciated, thanks!0 -
I think Egg are quite picky at the moment.
Have you tried the bank where your salary is credited to?0 -
Danxx I got turned down for a Capital One card last year, they advised me to get my credit reference file, so I did and wrote to them saying my file held no surprises, I was aware I'd been late with a couple of catalogue payments, I just wanted the 0% BT rate please could they reconsider my application. They accepted me

I've also recently applied and was accepted for an Egg card (another 0% BT rate) and they said yes.0 -
I specifically asked Egg about whether the balance transfer fee would incur interest and have a secure message stating in my case anyway that it will not.
Ask them first and keep the reply safe if they say the same thing.
Well, I'm happy to see that Egg have realised the error of their ways and abandoned this weasel practice.
I speak from experience as I was none too pleased at the time about this - and yes their T&Cs mentioned nothing about this.
I guess I should have pressed harder for a refund of the charges. :mad:0 -

No, I haven't tried with HALIFAX yet as thought HSBC was a better deal. I really wonder now if EGG is a better deal than HALIFAX. Also as now I was rejected from HSBC am afraid its gonna be more difficult to have any card.
I'll send a letter to HSBC asking why they rejected me and explaining any problems they might think of with my credit score.
Many thanks,0
