House Insurance with Criminal Conviction advice please

When my OH was sent to prison I informed our home insurance compnay the very next day of the change and they cancelled his insurance policy on the grounds that they were not informed of the pending court case. He had been with them for over 15 years and had never once put a claim in. I put this case to them and told them that I was being honest when informing them of what had happened but they would not budge, after many long searches I eventually found a company, Adrian Flux, who would insure our house. This was three years ago but due to his insurance company refusing to insure him etc, the policy has more than doubled in cost. I was wanting to know if there was anyone who knew of other insurance companies who insure criminal for home insurance.
Thank you for reading xxx And please don't think my OH has a criminal conviction for anything horrible, but this must be an issue for 1000's of people, I now all don't declare, more fool them, but the others that do may know of another insurance company that may be morecompetative on cost.

Have you tried Google?
home insurance criminal conviction
gives a number of hits and this article from the Independent might be useful.
Good luck. People can get convictions for all manner of things. And people can change

Hi there!
There's an article in the Guardian from way back in 2004 talking about this issue. It mentions about a charity called UNLOCK who help people in this situation.
Apparently there are 7.3 million people in the UK with criminal convictions!

Also be aware that after a certain period of time the conviction becomes 'spent' and from that point onwards he will no longer have to disclose it.
Here are some details:

There are a few brokers who specialise in insuring people with criminal convictions or ex offenders.

I've just seen somebody mention the charity UNLOCK.
I have just been on their website and they have a brilliant list of insurance brokers on there that can put you on cover for various types of insurance. Is definitely worth a look.
It also seems that they have a new thing called UNLOCK Forum, for people to discuss their convictions and get advice on other kinds of discrimination that people with convictions face!!!0 -
Just thought, their website is www.unlock.org.uk if anybody is interested!!!!0
