Spring is not necessarily the best time to switch!

If you switch to a dual fuel tariff, the time of the year you do it can also be important.
For example, if I switch from my current supplier (Scottish Power) to E.ON (online energy saver 5), I would get an overall saving of £40 for the year, however as the Electricity is considerably more expensive & the gas considerably cheaper and I do not use much gas over the summer the actual cost for the summer months would be more expensive with E.ON so now is not a good time to switch.
The best time to switch for me would therefore be a few weeks before the central heating goes back on in October.
When a possible £55 Quidco cashback is factored in for the switch though, it may still be worth doing now – but only just!
Another quick note on the E.ON energy saver 5 duel fuel tariff is that you don’t get the discount (15%) on your final bill so if you’re a regular switcher (like me) you would need to switch away just after a bill to get the full benefit.
