Calls to the US- is 1ppm the best?

Apart from VOIP services, is 1ppm to the US the best that can be achieved from a UK landline? With the likes of Ratebuster, Telesavers, et al.

Also, which would be the cheapest way to call the UK from a US landline?

There's another thread going about these rates.
I was told 1899.com was the cheapest. 3p connection charge and 0.5 pm

Post Office phonecards offer free calls every sunday to a different international destination. The country for free calls switches every month but it's best to check with them when the offer swings round to USA. You may only be able to talk on a Sunday but it should be worth it if it's free!

So you've got to keep chatting for a long, long time as it's got to be worth the £5 cost of the phonecard. The 90 day expiry isn't great. NTL phone cards can be extended just by phoning their helpline but I'm not sure about Post Office.

Personally, I get TalkTalk's free off-peak calls to USA, Canada, and Australia, although I don't make any calls to the latter two and only a max of 30 mins per month to USA!

I believe you can use the £5 to dial other places - so it isn't a complete loss!

No and if you have a mobile with inclusive minutes you can use the 020 access no and use them up that way,and if you have an Orange Contract Phone you could use the 0800 access no unless Orange have blocked it?

  • Thanks for all the above, any thoughts about calling the UK from the US. Will it be a locally purchased phone card using a toll free number? It will be calling from a US landline.
