REfill kits are economical but a bit messy, but if you have a Cartridge World shop near you they do refills at very reasonable prices, I swear by the Greenwich one (London SE10), the owner is very honest and one time I had a problem with the cartridge he replaced it free, no problem.

Sorry for coming in a little late to this. I have a newish Lexmark the 4750. I get recycled cartridges from either the Jersey firm that sells 2 for 1 (IJT Direct, from £7.49, but to get the 50% reductions you need a code from their mag ads) or a Bradford firm Inkslinks that has similar prices.
http://www.inkslinks.co.uk/lexmark-43-c.asp own brand from £7.99
http://www.inkslinks.co.uk/index.asp?function=DISPLAYCAT&catid=8 genuine Lexmark from £11.99
I usually fill my own but Lexmark have got crafty following on from HP by putting serial numbers electronically on the cartridges. HP printers remember the last serial number. So if you refill it when declared empty the printer refuses to print until you fit a new cartridge.
Lexmark have taken this further in so much that their current printers remember the last THREE cartridge serial numbers. If you try to refil it shouts out "non-Lexmark ink replace with Lexmark cartridge" and refuses to move. The way round this, is to use 3 cartridges Lexmark or compatible and then the 4th can be an old refilled one of the previous 3 and so on. Barstewards!
Hey...........a thought, ,,,, if you use your printer for general printing, i.e. not just photos, then you are being conned into printing print black from both your colour cartridges at the same time. This is very expensive. You should replace the photo cartridge (31) with one that contains just black ink ( I think the number is 32).
ONLY put the photo cartridge back in your printer when you want to print final version of a photo. The colour and black may even be good enough on their own, certainly for test prints. You are being robbed even more if you mostly print text.ac's lovechild0 -
For ages I have been buying my ink cattridges from 'The Cartridge People' on line. if you order on one day they arrive the next and are cheap and very good to deal with. I buy compatable ones but I think that real lexmark ones are cheaper than usual.
When you put the cartridge in my printer says this is not a real lexmark one but do you want to install it anyway and I press yes. I have used them for years and would not changeLoretta0 -
Thank you to everyone whos replied with the advice and tips. I defianatly am not buying Lexmarks own brand catridges. As Im only printing buts for my DS i only need black ink for now so will get that.Im hoping to get a compatable one or a refill although dont think i will manage doing the refill.0

the cartridges you are looking for diamond are
lexmark 31 is the photo cartridge this cartridge contains light cyan ink light magenta ink and photo black ink lexmark say you need this cartridge in your printer if you require to print photos i am yet to be conviced although this cartridge does help a great deal on flesh tones etc but i have printed with just the tri colour cartridge (33) (35) hard to tell the difference
the colour cartridge you require is a lexmark 35 these hold more ink than the lexmark 33 lexmark normally ship the printers with a lexmark 33 colour cartridge
you can also use a lexmark 34 in that machine that is just a black ink cartriidge better to go for this if you print alot of text docs etc
refill kits are good aslong has you are happy with filling the cartridge by yourself
compatiables can be a little hit and miss regarding quality
lexmark have in place a tiny resistor on the print head of the cartidge that burns out when the cartridge is depleted which means you can refill and reuse but you never get the ink levels back
there are compatiable cartridges on the market for £14 for black £15 clr these cartridges are high capacity and the ink levels are reset
lexmark printers are expensive to runHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Most printers are cheap for the simple reason that they can afford to due to the high cost of the cartridges, thus getting more profit for themselves.:mad:0
