Can anyone help me??
I have been looking at a recipe that I want to try but its american......does anyone here know what 2 1/2 cups of flour is in oz
1 cup of milk in ml
or is it better to just use a cup in my cupboard and do rough measures? if so what size cup is it asking for (tea cup, mug) ??
i'm still quite new to baking and I like to get things right

American recipes work by volume not by weight.
Cupsful of different things, such as sugar or flour, weigh differently.
An American cup is 240mil (and the European ones are 250mil)
So...
If you have a measuring jug with mils on it, all you need to do...
..is to fill the jug to the appropriate amount (levelled off) and that's the job done
1 cup 240
½ cup 120
¼ cup 60
And so on.
Cup measures are readily available in the kitchen/cookware section of most chainstores these days for as little as a couple of quid. Makes life much easier

Edit:- There's also help available for translating a whole bunch of strange american cooking terms in this thread...
