Passport renewal advice please

My son wants to renew his passport, which still has three years to run, because he doesn't fancy the new technology with biometric data being stored. So my question is, can he get a new 10-year passport now? I know they give you 9 months extra from an unexpired passport, and he is quite willing to lose the other 2 and a bit years.
Any advice appreciated :-))

What diffrence does it make - he'll get it on the next one!!!!0 -
Yes, but he will have postponed it for ten years ...0

Unless of course the government impose biometric passports beforehand - they may decide to make them compulsary for everyone in say a year or so. In addition the Identity card will also come in within the next 10 years. What's he got to worry about? tell him not to be silly!0

they might only give him 7 years on the new one... they only gave what was left on my current one when I changed my name, but if there are no changes and it's been lost it may be different ????
I think it is inevitable that the biometric ones will be dished out, and don't forget they could do a blanket replacement, and dish them out before the old ones run out, it's not an impossibility, so I don't think there's much difference either way.

Thank you to those posters who answered the question I asked rather than giving me a moral lesson
Sorry, wasn't trying to sound patronising or anything. However, like the other posters have said biometric passports are going to happen anyway (I'm pretty sure there is an EU Directive on this, so they will be compulsary for all EU countries). Also in a few years to be part of the US Visa Waiver Program you will require a biometric passport, otherwise you will have to apply for a visa to enter the USA (which will involve an interview)."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0
