  • THis is my first post, but have been an avid reader of the whole site for over a year.

My child benifit is paid in to an account i only use for this purpose. The only transactions i have done on this account in the last 3 months are:-

Transferring to another account of mine
Buying shoes for my DD at major shoe store
Cash point that i always use (no reported problems with it)

But on 21st Jan £30 was thaken out of this account to pay for online betting
On the 22nd Jan £800 was used at the same betting site followed by two more lots of £800
Total of £2430 FRAUDENTLY TAKEN OUT OF MY ACCOUNT.

Now to be fair, the on line betting site must have realised there was a problem as on 23rd Jan all the money was credited back to my account. I have obviously reported this to my back and action taken by them, but as of yet no leads as to where my details were got from!!!

COULD THIS BE A CASE OF MY DETAILS BEING USED FROM THE DISC?????????
  • I too have had fraudulent transactions on my a/c that can only be attributed to the missing disc or someone sharing my bank details.
  • It is very unlikely to be related to the discs, they are "too hot to handle".

They have your account details on them, not your credit/debit card details anyway.

Bigpoodle, your card could have been cloned or details found on an old receipt.

Minimoneysaver, do you realise how many people actually have your bank details? Have you ever had a bank statement go missing in the post?
  • Im involved in a case where there has been a massive breach of Data Protection and there is a fight going on for compensation.

I wont go into details obviously, but imo its wrong that people think they can get compensation for these cds going missing. I was slightly shocked when i saw it in the news yesterday, however, we are looking for test cases to use in court so thats the first thought that popped into my head!

It is going to make the uk look like a nation of greedy compo vultures, all out for what they can gain, and in turn, i feel guiltier because although my life has been damaged beyond repair, we have financial ruin, etc, etc, i will still get tarred with the same brush. Not exactly the same thing as losing our address and bank details, a great deal worse than that.

On a different note, i have had credit card and bank statements go missing in the post, and my card has been stopped due to suspicious behaviour, but thats just the way it is these days. The only way to prevent big brother, is to become a hermit and live in a cave.:rotfl:
