very upset right now. just glanced at my finger and noticed one of the 3 diamonds has gone from my engagement ring. its 15 yrs old, nothing too elaborate but obviously special to me. been decorating today, had a bath etc etc, so doubt i'll find it. Not sure what i can do, and not really a priority to replace. so i guess its just gonna get forgotten in the jewellery box

Awwwww...don't give up on finding the stone....same happened to me and I found the stone, eventually, when the cat was seen batting it around the kitchen floor. Hope you are as lucky0

If it is any consolation, I lost a ruby out of my engagement ring and was able to have it replaced under my house contents insurance. I had to pay an excess charge but they were very good about it as it is obviously genuine.“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

I've got 6 small diamonds on my (27yr old) engagement ring, & have lost odd ones over the years.
They're not TOO expensive to replace (unless they're big 'uns, I guess) - I've been quoted about £90 for the current missing one! The setting will probably need re-clawing - or whatever they call it!
Meanwhile (coz I have more important things to spend my ££ at the mo) I've got a little glass chip stuck in there with nail art glue! Stops the ring catching on things, & as my Mum would say 'It'd take a blind man to see it' - whatever the fook that means! LOL!

no the diamond is quite tiny, no rocks here lol.
the claws have smoothed down and wore away i guess. they were more 'illusion set'. not sure if worth having a diamond replaced as may cost more than the ring was originally (under £200). its sentimental though. my hub thinks im mad as ive been breaking my heart over it. men dont understand. i wanted a new engagement ring for my 10th anniverary(last may), but a new baby came along. i have thought of perhaps claiming on home insurance, but i dont have any receipts to prove cost and may cost more in excess to claim for replacement for diamond.0 -
hi,
I have thought of perhaps claiming on home insurance, but i dont have any receipts to prove cost and may cost more in excess to claim for replacement for diamond.
I don't think you need a receipt to prove it is yours as you still have the ring and it is obvious there is a stone missing. I *think* (although you will need to ring and ask your insurance company) that they will be happy with the quote from the jewelers you get it mended at to authorize it and then will either pay them direct or you'll have to pay and get a receipt for the repair and then claim.
More and more insurance companies are paying the shop/supplier rather than give claimants cash as there is less opportunity for fraudulent claims. However, you are not claiming you have lost the whole ring (as many frauds do) so I think you'll find they are more sympathetic. my insurers certainly were and didn't quibble at all. Your only problem will be the amount of excess you might have to pay. Do you know what this is?
I do empathise entirely re you breaking your heart over it... it has such great sentimental value for you. When my mum's wedding ring wore dangerously thin she got it melted down (along with a couple of odd gold earings she had) and a jeweler recast the gold into a new ring for her. Maybe you could do something similar so you feel the original sentimental one is still there too.
Good luck with either finding it or having it mended.“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

If you have the time and energy, put a pair of old tights over your vacuum hose and hoover the entire house thoroughly - even vinyl and laminate flooring. If the diamond is anywhere on a floor the tights will stop it being sucked up.

Many years ago I had an engagement ring with 2 tiny diamonds and an emerald in the middle, the emerald went down the plug hole of the sink and I found it.
It took a few weeks longer to get rid of the husband though. When I finally got rid of him I threw the engagement ring and the wedding ring off the end of Brighton Pier and then got drunk in the pub while playing The Who I'm Free on the juke box 27 times.
Shortly afterwards made the same mistake again but this time no engagement ring and got married without a wedding ring because he 'forgot'
Do we ever learn!!!!Loretta0
