Credit card cheques - stung with a £60 fee! - can I claim this back?

Hi,

I used one of the thousands of credit card cheques that get mailed to me every month the other day to pay for a deposit on some windows.

The cost was £2000 and the latest statement came through this morning with a lovely £60 credit card cheque fee added to the balance.

I presume this is my fault for not reading the small print but I'm still very annoyed and gutted by the £60 fee which I don't need or can afford.

Is there anything i can do about this?

The company is MBNA (Endsleigh Insurance).

Any help you can offer will be appreciated.

Thanks, Steve.

I'm afraid you'll be taking the hit on this one as it's common for a fee to be added.

Very stupid in my opinion to write one for £2000.

A true money saver knows that these are shredder material and should never be touched.

Did you also notice the hefty interest now being charged (at your cash advance rate of 20%+)...or are you in a 0% introductory period?

You can stop them - just ask the credit card company to do so and they will.

Don't care if they send them or not - they get shredded & recycled

i asked virgin to stop sending me cheques ages ago and yet with every statement I recieve I still get 4 cheques. Mind you there is nothing owing on the card now as I have just paid it off. Will be closing the account as soon as i get my next statement.

  • No one is forcing you to use them.

I have used them and worked out the 0% months against the borrowing to ensure most is paid off before the 0% rate finishes.

If there is no special rate you would be advised to apply for a new 0% card and shift it over as the interest rate will be quite hefty.

    Thanks, Steve.

yes, make sure that you read the T&C's, or ask the right questions before you do anything like this....you will not get any money back and there is no justification for this

sorry to be harsh but since the credit card charges many people have posted various things on this claiming they should get money back and they shouldnt.... there needs to be these sort of charges on cards, otherwise everyone will be charged for every card they have

under the data protection act, you have a right to cancel any unwanted mailing, I would suggest cancelling all statements if you use and are confident with internet banking. If not specifically request the card cheques be cancelled and leave it 6 weeks,

if you recieve them after this time then rign them again and let them know politeley that you will be taking this to the information commisioner under a breech of the data protection act.....theyll soon stop!
