Buying in Milton Keynes

Hi, Does anyone live in the MK area that can recommend the best areas to look for a first time buyer as I'm asking for my sister who is new to the area. Ideally seeking a house with a 150k limit which will hopefully appreciate in value in future years.

Thanks

Avoid Fishermead, Stantonbury and Coffee Hall. ;) Newport Pagnell is a lovely town to live in, ditto New Bradwell.
  • Any thoughts on Stony Stratford & Wolverton? Its been recommended by a work colleague although they did say there weren't many amenities.

I second the Bradwell area I stay there visiting with an elderly relative on a monthly basis and it seems quiet and well served by shops and buses... there are lots of good walks and the cycle tracks as ever are evident.. also has a Tesco supermarket closeby and is not too far from the Central shops... its also a short hop off and onto the A5 and the M1..

Stony Stratford is a really lovely little town, but I'd avoid Wolverton if poss - I did actually live there for a while and found it quite a rough place.
  • Have the recommended areas generally been good in terms of property values going up? As my sister has a 2 year fixed term contract she may move depending on where her work takes her. Wouldn't want to be stuck if properties are slow to sell.

Try the area known as the 'Racecourses' development in Far Bletchley.

Hi, I found this resource invaluable when we were looking. Tells you all about the demographics of each area - http://www.mkiobservatory.org.uk/resource.aspx?IWCM_resourceId=5443&IWCM_wizardType=1&IWCM_resourceIsNew=false

Generally speaking, I'd say most of the desirable areas are to the west and east flanks on the city, sorry town!:D

    Good luck with your search!

Just noticed your budget, I think you'd be hard pushed finding somewhere in that price bracket in a nice area of town unless you're after a 1 bed. Sorry but it's the truth.

Funny, I lived in New Bradwell a while too and found it really nice. Depends on which part I guess.

Shenley and Furzton are also nice areas I agree. Be careful in Bletchley itself, some areas are OK but others (e.g. the Lakes estate) are downright dangerous. Great Linford is also a very pleasant place to live.

Oh yes, and don't go to Conniburrow either.
