It is a long time since I visited Venice (1994) but my main (and fantastic) memory is of sitting on the beach, digging through the wet sand with my hands and unearthing fossilised sharks teeth. These are hundreds of thousands/millions (?) of years old and black/brown in colour, at first they seemed impossible to find but once we realised exactly what we were looking for we found hundreds within the space of a couple of hours. Not much use as a practical tip I know but it was (for me) such a wonderful thing to be able to do.

    Thank you Incapuppy!

We have looked for sharks teeth in the past and it's great fun and something we will definitely be doing this year.

  • I'm not sure how far Sarasota is away from Venice, nice for something to eat and shop but if you get chance you must visit the beach at Siesta Key, its fantastic.

Just wanted to say I am in Florida now and having a fantastic time and if anyone wants any info on this part of the Gulf coast just let me know!
  • We spent a day on Venice beach at the begining of jan this year , loved it , sat for hours on the pier watching people fish , and talking to them . There's a nice restaurant on the beach , its a great place to chill out .
We have been to Florida several times , this was the first visit to the Gulf coast , I would go back tomorrow
