Natwest CC - BT fee charged query?

At end of Jan I rung Natwest to do 2 BT's. The lady I spoke to made no mention of any possible BT fees during the conversation, which I thought was odd, so I asked at the end what was the balance transfer fee. She replied saying there was none.

Get CC statement this morning and have been charged a total of £36.34 for the 2 BT's

I am going to write to complain and ask them to listen to the call.

In the T&C's it says - for each balance transfer debited to the account during the first 6 months [which is was within] from account opening we will charge you 2% of the transferred amount (min. £5), unless you qualify for exemption from that fee or are notified of a different fee under the terms of a special offer we make in connection with your application.

Do you think I am within my rights to request to get the BT fees plus any interest incrued (sp) refunded?

TIA

  • You definetely have a good case here. It quite clearly states in your personal terms & conditions the balance transfer fee unless different from the verbal agreement with the customer services representative at the time. In your case, the verbal agreement was there would be no fee, so one can assume you've been incorrectly charged.
I would give them a call & state this.
    Hope all goes well.
