British Gas HomeCare Insurance - Expensive !

We currently have British Gas Home Care300 insurance which covers our central heating boiler repair, drain blockages, and call out/repair for 3 kitchen appliances. The renewal notice has just arrived £448.50 with a £25 reduction for a "No claim" last year which seems pretty expensive to me. In in the past we've accepted this for the convenience of having an instant call-out service in emergencies but does anybody know if there are any other companies offering a similar service which might be cheaper? And if so, how reliable are they? Thanks.

I've been looking for this as well but the prices on their homecare insurance page range from £9-£26 per month depending on plan... no mention od £448.50 per annum??

The BG cover is very good for central heating but if you start adding the extras on then it becomes an expensive beast and the odds of claiming are much reduced pro-rata for the premium you pay.

We have british gas home care 300 insurance and when our boiler broke down last winter on a sunday afternoon it was one phone call and they sent out an engineer within an hour. My friend had changed her insurance to another well known company and she waited 10 days for them to come out for her repairs and she had 2 small children. Needless to say she has gone back to british gas for her repairs.

You can keep the same level of cover but reduce to "flexi" cover where you pay the first £50 of an COMPLETED repair.
We did this and premium came down from £26 to £18 a month.
  • Hi there!
I am now with e-on for my own home at £11 per month, who are very good, I am with b-gas homecare for our rented property (landlords - including gas safety cert) and full call out package and pay £19.95 per month, it was £24.00 but bartered them down.
You cant have everything; where would you put it? ;)
