Ideas for uk holiday destination with plenty to do for 1 yr old?

We're looking to go away in the UK (probably in south/east) some time in late March/early July.

We have MiniFreda, who will be just over 1. I will also be 5 months pregnant and due to various difficulties with this, can't go anywhere where the main activities are walking based.

As it will be early spring, we'd be looking for somewhere that has easy access to various things that a 1 year old could do if it rains!

Any ideas for possible locations?

  • Hi Freda,

Our first trip with our 10 month old son was in April 2001 to Mallorca near Pollensa/Puerto Pollensa.

We stayed in a villa so could be self-sufficient, but lots of child-friendly dining out and takeaway options in Pollensa. Also shops in Pollensa well stocked with baby requisites.

The location was absolutely great for our son - beaches to potter about on, nice promenade in Puerto Pollensa, the villa gardens/patio. Alcudia nor far away if you want a day trip to a more lively ;) resort. Took his stroller and a backpack carrier so we could be flexible. The beauty of north-west Mallorca took us completely by surprise, Formentor is fabulous, and a trip to Soller and the tram is a nice day out.

We didn't know how it would go, but we all had a great time, and went back to the same villa again when he was 2yo.

We went with Sealand Villas, their choice is great. We picked Collet Vell which was perfect for us in terms of location - felt away from it all yet near the essentials.

Have a great time wherever you go!

Have you thought about the Isle of Wight?

We found it to be fantastic with young children, lovely beaches, lots of attractions all with easy driving distance as the island is so small.

We also love the area around Bournemouth and Swanage, again lovely sandy beaches and lots of other things to do.

And last but not least the area around Torquay, Paignton etc there seems to be lots of good attractions around there too.
