Stag Party Edinburgh - Advice and Tips

I am organising a Stag Do in Edinburgh and really I am looking for any advice or tips:-

1) Are these Stag Party Organiser's any good?
2) Any difficulty getting into clubs and resturant's in Edinburgh - do they actively turn away big groups?
3) Want to do Go-Karting and Clay pidgeon shooting - anybody found a good venues.
4) Any good general clubs which are relaxed and not the possie type.

Any other advice would be appreciated as we wantto have a good do and unfortunately I carn't go on a reckie before.

Appreciate anybody's help.

Cheers,

Albert

I went on a stag do in Edinburgh last year. We organised it ourselves, flying from East Midlands with EasyJet. Stayed at a hotel called "Cairn Hotel" - never likely to win any awards but had a bar open 24 hours and fairly cheap and not far from city centre - ideal for a stag party. I think it's worth trying one of the city centre Travelodges as well if you book in advance. We did that for a do in Newcastle and they're a good place to stay, you can book online and they don't seem to mind same sex groups.

Taxis from airport to city centre was about £15 I think.

As for activities, we didn't do any (except watch the rugby and end up being intimidated by both Scots and Irish) so can't really help there.

Got back from a hen weekend in Edinburgh yesterday!

We organised it ourselves so don't know about planners. Personally I wouldn't want to be told what to do all the time.

There were plenty of stag parties around so they obviously had no trouble getting in to the bars we were in - but we did meet one stag party who had been refused entry so I guess it depends on the bar they tried (don't know which one). Girls/mixed groups have no trouble so they asked whether we could all go in together as a mixed group.

Frankenstein's restaurant/bar was fun and "hen/stag party central" according to the waitress so no trouble getting in there. It's open until midnight. Apparently there's a good vodka shots bar across the road but we didn't go there. We then went to the Three Sisters which was open until 1am, then onto Espionage which was open until 3am. All of those were in the Old Town. Getting a taxi home afterwards was a nightmare though!

Daytime - we did a city tour by bus and shopped, but then we are girls...

Have fun, it's a beautiful city!

Your best bet if you are in a lage group is to phone ahead to any clubs, try https://www.yell.com very often the will offer you free entry or discounted entry.

Start at Ryans bar at the end of princes street, great food and not expensive. Or Rutland place, just across the road!

Then do rose street! (parrellel to princes street) A street of pubs ( and a long street at that)! Very often clubs have staff out on the street handing out free tickets!

You couldnt have picked a better city for a stag do!

    Have a great time!

  • I can't be a huge amount of help, but just wanted to say my husband has been on quite a few 'managed' stag dos and they turn out perfectly.

They are great when you want to fit in a lot, and not have to trawl about looking for the best places to go where you aren't likely to get kicked out.

An example of the types of stag dos he tends to go on, they start with a clay pigeon shoot, onto a bar, then gokart racing, and a heavy night out (with all the pubs and clubs booked) the following morning is booked for golf, which is always good for a hangover.

If you plan to fit in a lot I would say the planners are great. If you want to just go to pubs and clubs with a hotel to be booked, I would say you are best of doing it yourself.
