    Well.

Thankfully he didnt take it any further, would have been a total waste of his time because the mother cant teach her child what time to come home.

i am not aware of any parent who manages to get their child to behave all the time..... as much as i don't think a condemnation of the police is in order, i'm not sure judgements on parenting abilities are warrented either! there are just too many unknowns to be able to do that.

He was obviously the only one there and the station was CLOSED. Do you think that he should just work continously and never go home? He gave another option of reporting it.

Fwhorn, do you get to go home from work at the end of the day or are you still at work now? If so, isn't it nice to finish once in a while?

Don't you think that even the emergancy services might actually at some point need some sleep?

Did you know that other people in the world, yes even the ones wearing a uniform aren't actually robots but people, they can't actually work forever?

Or I suppose you'll say "well that was important, he should have done that one". Say that took 2/3 hours, can he go home then?

Then what happens when person number 2 turns up just as last time as he was about to go home, what if the original post was person number 2.............Do you see what can end up happening?

Sorry who said the Officer was finishing, what was said was that the station was closed. Unfortunatly being a police officer isnt a 9-5 job and the job is hard and I take my hat off to them. The OP wasnt reporting a dog missing but a child.

If it's closed you can pretty much bet he was finished/finishing. If it's closed that means it's finished it's service for the day.

    Closed things don't provide a service...............because they're closed!

Can you get food from a closed chip shop, no!
Can you do your shopping from a closed supermarket, no!
Can you watch a film at a closed cinema, no!

It seems these days some people seem to forget what the word closed actually means.

I use to work in retail and you'd close the shop. The amount of times someone would stick their head under the shutter and ask "are you open?" well of course your bloody not!

LMAO, again. If its closed, it dosnt mean they are finishing a shift at all. These stations, like the ones all over the country are now being used as a base and many people on this thread have already stated are used for paperwork, and clocking on/off. As for all your closed shop theories, people queue up outside closed shops, supermarkets etc. because they could be just opening.

Bit of advice, dont be come a bookie.

Right so your saying closed means open?

If a station is closed to do paperwork because theres someone in it that means it's providing the same service as if it were open? So in that case, why was it closed. Or if your telling me that when somewhere is closed just because someone may be present then it should provide the same service as if it were open. So why then do places close?

Why should I not become a bookie, do the punters not know what it means when then outside says closed?

I don't know why your laughing your !!! off, you haven't got a clue what the word closed means!

When I use to work in retail I would close the shop then cash up. I wasn't off duty but the shop was no longer open for people to buy things.

Now answer this: Closed shops can have staff still on duty, does that mean the public can walk in as if the shop is open and still buy things?

Or look at it this way. I have just closed a shop. I'm now cashing up so still on duty. The shop is closed to allow me to do this. Is the shop open for people to buy things?

When something is closed it is no longer open for business (so to speak). Whether anyone left still is on duty doesn't matter, they have closed which means service has ended for the day.

Directly answering your question. Closed does not mean off duty. On duty does not mean open. Closed does not mean providing the same service as when your open.

None of this is complicated to understand!

    On/off duty isn't the same as open/closed.

Why are you assuming it's the same thing?

Why are you assuming that retail work conditions are the same as a Police officer's conditions, there not. Because the station is closed dosnt mean that the Police are off duty.
