I thought it was worth £30 for the sake of no hassle, especially as I had saved over £200 on the purchase.

It's all very well saying you have consumer rights but trying to enforce them after 12 months is a nightmare, especially when you can't even go in the shop and shout at someone:p

and maybe that's where you're going wrong - shouting at people.

There's alot of things in this world that make things easier - takeaways, cleaners etc etc etc - none of them are MONEYSAVING. Don't take the easy way out (it's not that much effort) all your life.

It's quite hard not to raise your voice when the SA/Manager is not listening to what you are saying. I never buy in Currys or Comet because they have reinvented consumer rights so that they refuse point blank to replace a faulty item if it's 29 days old! Speaking loudly about the crap they are selling when the shop is busy is quite effective in putting off other customers and getting your problem resolved;)

If you read some of my other posts you will see I don't shirk at standing up for myself. However 5 year guarantee for £30 is blooming good value as you would have to threaten them with legal action to get a cooker over 12 months repaired and sue them in the small claims court to get them to fix a cooker over 4 year old cooker.

I would waste so much of my time in writing, spend more on take-aways/restaurants for having a non-working cooker, plus have to pay the court fees upfront. Also anything else I buy from them is covered too by this £30. To me it makes sense for an item that is used daily and is very inconvient when out of action.

and what's going to have to happen when they turn round and say they you don't meet the narrow criteria for their super duper majik waranty - ooooh you're going to have to threaten legal action, you're in the same position. This doesn't stop them saying that they won't fix it.

not at all as I usually get what I am entitled to.

I've never been in this position. I had an extended 5 year warranty on my previous cooker and used it about 6 times no problem at all. I took out a warranty on my Hoover washing machine many years because you could take them out directly with Hoover at the time. Called them out a few times too, no problem. I have homecover with BG. Again they come out promptly and even though I have a 30 year old back boiler and CH system which they always warn me they might not be able to get parts for they do. Compare with my superduper over priced frost free fridge freezer that had no warranty on it. Broke down at 3 year old and not one engineer I called from yellow pages would even come out and look at it as they all said they are too expensive to repair. I had to bin it and buy a new one.

  • I do not trust empire direct at all!!! when me and my bf moved into our new house in oct 2006, we wanted a specific fridge and the only place that had it in stock was empire direct. However. when they delivered it, it was completely trashed.......the freezer lining had all peeled off so that the door dint shut porperly, and it had obviuosly been slammed on the floor with some force because one of the feet had gone inside the freezer. So we sent this on e back and they delivered another that was equally as bad, and in the process of delivering this made huge dints in our kitchen floor!!! We sent this one back too and ordered it from somewhere else (as this had taken so long they were back in stock everywhere else) However, they didn't refund pur money for months afterwards!!! Very unimpressed will never order from there again.

What was even more annoying was this mistakes meant we had no fridge over christmas!!!!
