Peugeot Technicians (advice Needed)
I have a 406 HDI. Engine diagnostics warning light occasionally comes on and stays on resulting in a loss of power which can be lethal at times,(i have no idea when it is going to happen).Have been told by receptionist that i need a complete fuel system including injection system,& there is problems getting the parts. This seems a bit drastic to me,is his diagnosis correct? or is it a bit of bull!!!!.He also mentioned the engine management computer as well.I would appeciate any practical comments.

My Audi A3 1.8 Sport (petrol) had a similar problem, cutting out in the fast lane of the motorway on more than one occasion, not funny I can assure you. Unfortunately by the time it went into the dealer the intermittant fault had corrected itself and it didn't show up on the computer. The last time it happened I was lucky enough to get an Audi Mobile Technician to the breakdown and he hooked up the diagnostic laptop, the fault was a sensor malfunction ( Pre Cat Lambda Probe (?) I think it's called), it measures exhaust gas emissions.
I have had other engine management problems over the life of the car ( it is 4 years old at the end of the month) the last one was about 4 months ago the fuel guage stopped working. I have also had one fault where the car acted as if the airbags had been activated, lights flashing etc.
Fortunately mine's a company car with a full maintenace contract so it didn't cost me anything except time and inconvenience, and a few moments of terror on the M6 when it broke down. If it's going to be a problem to get the parts I assume it may be a little older and not in warranty? If so it might be better to cut your losses because the bill will be huge no doubt.
Good luck:)0 -
