Abbey--No more increases to credit limits

in Credit cards
This 'credit crunch' is really on Abbey's mind. I called them today and the colleague on the end of the phone said Abbey are doing no more credit increases to overdrafts or credit limits. I thought I was just being put off so called two more times and spoke to different people. One of them even said we are awaiting the latest information from Head Office. Managed to get the new Halifax card so can use the 0%.

Me and the other half opened bank accounts with them at the weekend.
We were given interest free overdrafts on 3 accounts we swapped from the Halifax;
My current account, wanted no overdraft, have £750 with Halifax, was given £2000!
Joint account, wanted £250, have £500 with the Halifax, was given £1750!
Partner, wanted £250, have £250 with the Halifax, and the gave £250.
One out of the 3 ain't bad!
Can understand how people get in to debt, thankfully I have learnt my lesson there, you only need to pay back what you borrow, and find it tougher in the long run.
Apparently this was to avoid any unwanted charges while the swap between accounts takes place from direct debits. :rolleyes:0 -
that im glad banks are starting to refuse to give ppl cards. with all and sundry claiming back thousands in fees, banks are now extra careful with lending.
i see credit refusal as a good thing.*~* Valued Opinions - £40; Quidco - £92.77; Lightspeed Panel - £40; My Survey - £20; Consumer Pulse - £190; Toluna - £44; Ciao - £42.47; GfK - £50; Pigsback - £20; ABAi - £10; Panelbase - £10.45 ; Grassroots - £50 *~* Blue Text = Account now closed

suppose you're right chuckley, it just hurts to see it...a bit like them closing the sweet shop....how hooked on credit are we? horrible isn't it?For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070

So do I now - I certainly didn't when I got knocked back twice for interest free cards and twice for consolidation loans in the last few weeks, but now I can see that I would only have got myself into a bigger hole in the long run so the banks have done me a big favour in a way - it's tough but i'm just going to have to cut down and pay back!:eek:0 -
Well Egg have just offered me an interest free deal with a 2.5% fee on my Egg card.
Seems then that they want to keep my business.0 -
What has claiming back fees got to do with this? Customers have challenged fees as being unlawful, and until forced to by the sheer volume of claims, the Banks refused to justify them in Court. So the fault lies entirely with the Banks for-that im glad banks are starting to refuse to give ppl cards. with all and sundry claiming back thousands in fees, banks are now extra careful with lending.
1 - Setting up a potentially unlawful charging structure.
2 - Not being able/ willing to defend this when challenged.
And why exactly are you glad? How do other peoples finances affect you? Are you just pompously assuming that all applicants are potential bad debts?0 -

We will have to wait and see what the judgement is, everyone is entitled to their own opinion...mine is that bank charges are lawful

before this 'reclaim bank charges' kicked in, people could obtain credit from EVERYWHERE, no problems. now even the simple of accounts, like nationwide flex acc's, are hard to obtain... why? as so many folk are reclaiming charges on faults of their own. so banks are shelling out for their customers mistakes... and are now fighting back...What has claiming back fees got to do with this? Once a 0% finishes rather than paying it off, folk move the debt to another and either keep spending or just leave there for another int free period... this is where the problem lies. so with thousands of folk claiming back, the banks tar everybody with the same brush as 'bad to lend to'. which in turn is bad for genuine folk that need a CC to , e.g, pay for an urgent repair... but such is life when folk think they can spend spend spend... get charged (for their mistakes) and claim it all back as tho they are in the right.
so its about time banks started refusing and being more choosy. people seem to think its their right to have said credit.*~* Valued Opinions - £40; Quidco - £92.77; Lightspeed Panel - £40; My Survey - £20; Consumer Pulse - £190; Toluna - £44; Ciao - £42.47; GfK - £50; Pigsback - £20; ABAi - £10; Panelbase - £10.45 ; Grassroots - £50 *~* Blue Text = Account now closed
