Interesting that the reason for this shutdown is to upgrade systems to bring them inline with the OFT ruling that all airlines must display their fares inclusive of all taxes and charges.

In true Ryanair style, they didn't meet the initial dealine of 31st July 2007. They cited technical issues and were granted an extension until 31st January, which they also missed. Although it seems they will finally get this sorted.

I find this quite incredible; they really must have some major system issues to take their entire booking engine offline for three days! Imagine a supermarket having to shut their doors for 3 days to enable checkout upgrades!!

Just an additional note, the above article appears to be incorrect. The Ryanair website states that the shutdown will be from 22nd-25th February.

I assume online check-in is unaffected?

I think online check-in is also affected. There is an article on the Times website which says Ryanair will waive the check-in fee for people affected on those dates.

EDIT: it seems that article has been modified, when I read it the other day it definately had a paragraph saying web checkin will be unavailable but airport checkin charge will be waived. Now, either I'm going blind or stupid, but that bit has vanished!!
