Question about moving current account

I'm seriously considering switching from Nationwide to A&L, for the higher interest rate & free money for joining.
It's a long time since I switched banks, last time I had to re-set up all DDs & standing orders manually, helped by a handy checklist from Nationwide.
I believe all this is done for you now, what I want to know is will my Nationwide account be closed as part of the process?
I want to keep the Nationwide account open, so that I can move money into it for foreign trips & use the fee free cash & credit cards. I also qualify for windfall benefits should they ever turn into a bank.
Cheers

I don't think so (i.e Nationwide account will remain open). I switched from HSBC to Nationwide and my HSBC account stayed open. I would double check with Nationwide though."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

When I switched to A&L they sent a letter for me to sign authorising them to close my old account (halifax) once everything has been switched. I just chose not to sign and return the letter, therefore my old account stayed open.0
