Help!homeless and up to neck in it!

Hi everyone,
Ive posted on here before reguarding my situation and the worst case sinario has finally happened.

I had a pub business with my partner, the business failed due to various reasons (rent too high, smoking ban etc.). We fell into rent arrears and the pub company evited us last week (after a court battle which we lost).

We went to the housing office and they told us they couldnt help because we had no children living with us and it was our fault we were homeless.
They put us in band D (the lowest priority bracket!). At the moment we are using what little money we have left to stay in b&bs, but our money is running out. I have secured a job but i dont start till the 18th Feb, also the people we still owe from the business are still chasing us for money and have started calling at my parents address. My mother has altzimers and is registered disabled so we cant stay with my parents because of the mental effect and also the affect on her and my dads caring benifits. We will not be able to rent privately when i get my paycheck as the estate
agents wont touch us because of our credit.

I find it unbelieveable that we have both worked really hard all our lives and payed thousands into the system and now we need help they are closing the doors.

Any advice much appritiated
Thanks

No, there really is nowhere we can go, so we are staying in hotels and b&bs at the moment, but we cant keep this up for much longer (they are not cheap!!). My partner has 2 children from a previous relationship and they stay with us once a week, but they dont live with us.

sounds like your really going through it honey and I sympathise xxx

I honestly don't know how I can help but there might be some superbod along soon who can help. I've worked in the industry before now and know the toolls it can take on your finances and personal life.

So the first thing to do is make a list of everything you owe and make sure YOU owe it not the pub company. Secondly do you mind if I ask which company itb was that evicted you and where from??

Secondly you do need to try and rent somewhere despite your credit rating you cant stay in a B&B any longer!!!

Hope I can help some more later on

Hiya, the pub company was Punch Taverns, amazingly we paid them just under 90k last year in cash and they still want more, we came out with just under 1000 pounds in cash and worked around 100hrs a week for 2yrs for that!!

You could try private landlords or smaller agencies rather than estate agents for letting, they don't all do a credit check, and as long as you can prove you will have an income coming in from the new job then you should be able to find somewhere. My credit rating is pretty appalling but I still managed to rent, so don't give up hope on that.

Don't know much about housing/ benefits but I'm sure Shelter will be able to help.. and maybe your local CAB?

Hope it all works out well for you x

So sorry to hear about this.

What I will say is you need to get in contact with your Citizens Advice Beareu (sp is terrible sorry!). They will be able to advise you as to what you are/arent entitled to.

Sorry i cant offer any more help than that, but some more knoweldgeable people will be over soon.

Thanks for that, its nice to know at least there is somewhere to share my problems!! i am going to go to CAB on Monday, as they all seem closed this afternoon!
  • Hi the same thing happened to my mate they sent the bailiffs in to her she paid £50 grand and apparently when they went to the court for bankruptcy they just said oh another from punch. They are not good people to work with too many restrictions and are making a fortune out of people like yourselves. They will lease your pib out again and get another £90 grand. Rent privately, then when you both get a job you will feel much better. You could go bankrupt that way you owe no one any thing!
