Any trainbooking sites accept Visa Electron?

Trying to book a journey for tomorrow and it's half the price if I can book it today. Scotrail and trainline don't accept electron

I always had a problem with my Visa Electron, all these greedy rail operators would refuse to accept it- then I'd have to go to my local train station and buy it. Their messing around meant I missed the cheap train tickets for Glastonbury and I paid £40 more.

Well as of 2008 the train stations won't pre-book train tickets unless they are a large station. Not that they take Visa Electron anyway. I wasn't in the mood for paying £10 to my nearest train station so I could buy a ticket so I searched online.

I tried all the online rail operators to find a rail operator that accepted Visa Electron and I found National Express East coast does- just use the Visa form. Nice site, very reliable and fast. Unlike some rail operators online there is no credit card fee or postage fee to the UK, so it's a good deal even if you're not using Electron.

but where did he search?

My local station won't sell advance travel tickets after 5pm, and I don't get home until 6.

    Aw thanks cannyscot! appreciate that.

You could search online and then buy the same ticket by phone - I think (not 100% sure) that electron would be acceptable.

    trainline dont accept electron anymore???

    WOW.
  • For future reference Electron is changing to Visa Debit. If you get onto the bank they should change it. My Electron changed a couple of weeks ago. It was always a pain with that card.

its not an automatic change, it depends on your credit score
  • I've recently booked tickets online with CrossCountry Trains using my Visa Electron card, and it even allowed me to specify a window seat! :-) There was no booking fee. The card was also accepted by Virgin's FastTicket machine (for collection of the tickets), so it looks as if things are starting to improve at last.
