Switching via Quidco

I'm considering switching away from EDF, but have not previously used a site such as Quidco before, so I have just signed up with them.

However, reading through all of Quidco's 'Before You Get Started' advice, I am alarmed at the measures necessary to ensure that tracking data gets through. It appears to me that a lot of the advice given about staying safe online is thrown out of the window. Enabling cookies, enabling JavaScript, switching off pop-up blockers, reducing Firewall security - all this sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. They even advise using a dedicated Internet browser such as Firefox just for Quidco transactions.

And all this palaver to save a few quid? It doesn't seem worth the risk to me.

Clearly, lots of other people happily use this site, so what's the risk in reality?

I havent read any of that stuff and just joined up and used my browser as is (I use firefox) and everything has tracked fine.

I have firewall and antivirus etc and nothing flags up so I'd say its fine.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

The best way to use quidco is to have two internet browsers. One for your normal we browsing and one just for quidco purchases.

Most people with Windows use Microsoft Internet Explorer for their web browsing so for quidco, you could install a free browser (like Firefox). You can set this up with quidco.com as the start page and just use it when buying via quidco. That way you don't have to worry about cookies, javascript, etc. etc.

PS. It isn't just a few quid, I have got over £500 cashback from quidco in the last 2 years. Many people have got a lot more.
  • Geoff,

Dont worry about that "intro" thread. I use firefox for all my browsing, including Quidco. Got £250 in my account uptil now and everything has been tracked. I have anti-virus, pop -up blockers, javascript disabled, and have Zone Alarm as my firewall, as well as clearing all my cache/cookies when firefox shuts down automatically.

The most important thing is that when you visit a website using Quidco link, you "must complete the transaction in one go". Thats the only important rule to follow.

Try websites like High Street Web which pays £0.04 and see if it works for you. Give it couple of hours to get in your tracked list.

    Hope it helps.

  • Use firefox and all gets tracked fine - just changed from Scottish Power to E-On and got £70 on system for tracking in 24hrs,well worth it.
