No matter what, it doesn't matter what I do, as soon as I start to get myself sorted out financially, something else comes up, which ends up costing me money. I never manage to get a substantial amount of savings saved up as I'm always having to pay to fix or replace things in my home.
Now i'm not the best saver in the world, I admit, but it would be nice to be given the opportunity to see my cash mount up.
6 months ago, my fridge broke down, my hoover broke, the tumble dryer timer broke and the washing maching in the utility room started leaking and runied the floor. Q a big bill for repairs and new appliances.
Right now, my bedroom television has decided the sound will stick on loud, there is nothing I can do it turn it down. My iron has decided to start making weird and wonderful "farting" noises and ejecting some rather weird liquid and my car has overheated on the way home from work. Looks as though I need a new radiator as it appears to have a hole in it. Q another big bill for repairs and replacements.
Does anyone else find these things happen to them, or is it just me? I'm fed up of always having to spend my savings on replacing and fixing things - why can't life be kind to me and let me save some cash for once!
Grrrrgh!

Things are running smoothly for me. I do tend to look after things very well. Was the car nicely topped up with water? Had you cleaned the hoover's filter? Have you descaled your iron?
However, I am sure that bad things are on their way! These things do seem to come in threes
PS Have you tried Radweld in your radiator - can repair a small hole cheaply. Worked for us and gave us an extra year out of the car (we then scrapped it - uneconomical to repair). You just pour it in, and when exposed at the hole it solidifies0 -
Sounds like your iron just needs descaling too.
I've had a few weeks like this already this year - but thanks to this site the replacment items have been a lot cheaper buy sussing out the deal and offers.

Sometimes life just goes that way. I have had runs like that and it's very frustrating.
Cut spending down to the bone, pay off whatever repairs are necessary as quickly as possible, then try and save for a few months to build up a pot to repair whatever goes wrong next
lipidicman has a point about making sure you look after your things though - make sure your oil and water are always topped up in your car, descale your iron regularly, keep emptying the filter on your washing machine... all the boring stuff!0 -
also decide if you really need the item fixed now, or if you can save up and get it fixed/replaced at a later date when the money is there. Is a TV in the bedroom essential?? if not, then maybe leave it till you have the money to repair it, you might get used to not having it around! if it is essential to get it repaired straight away, ring round for the cheapest quote.
question though - where is the filter on the washing machine?? clearly I haven't cleaned mine in the two years I've had the machine.... oops!0 -
Usually down low. Mine is on the front behind a panel like you have for the fuel on your car. Behind that you unscrew and find a plastic filter full of limescale, blue fluff and slime. A horrible Job!0
-
wow, I didn't know either that washers had filters! I always collect all the fluff from the one on the dryer tho'.
But at this time of year Amie, get your clothes outside on the line or if no garden then even on racks in the house at these temperatures it all should dry in a couple of hours.0 -
The hoover was a Dyson, with an ever lasting filter thing that only needed cleaning twice a year - or something like that- it just decided to blow up one day. Was going to cost £70 to fix but ended up buying another one (not a Dyson I might add!)
I do try to look after things - although admittedly the car could do with a bit of TLC. Has been overdue for a service, so this could probably have been avoided, although the car is now 5 years old and on 54,000 so I guess this may be around the time that wear and tear start to show on the parts I guess.
The TV, isn't essential, and I guess it is one of life's luxuries to have one in the bedroom. I can still use it, only the whole street can hear the damn thing. I only use it when I know my neighbours aren't in, as I don't want of those Asbo things served on me for being a nusinance neighbour!!! It may become essential to repair/replace soon, as the football season is starting soon. Although I like football and will watch most games, my OH is a massive footie fan and insists on watching every single game, so the 2nd tele is a godsend if I want to watch eastenders - and he gets banished to the bedroom!
Does anyone know how to descale an iron - I've never done this before and wouldn't know where to start?!I say what I like, I like what I say!0 -

me neither !!! how do I not know these things? Can someone tell me about all the other things I don't know and what it is I don't know? AAAAaaahhhhh...0 -
Schools should teach you how to do stuff like this instead of learning algebra.
Who needs that when what we really need to know is stuff like how to descale an iron & how to check the filter on a washing maching?
Maybe I'll write to the education department . . . . . .I say what I like, I like what I say!0 -
Well, they do teach you to read (so RTFM)0
