Savings Account for Wedding!

Options
Hello moneysavers!

Been a while since I've been on here but need your advice again :)

Im getting married next August and need to start saving for my contribution. I'll be putting about between 200 and 500 a month away towards it. I've currently got an RBS savings account that Im just putting it to but wonder if there is a better account out there for it?

I don't intend in taking the money out until June next year and I already have £500 to put into a new account if a starting deposit is required.

Look forward to your advice :T

Open an Alliance & Leicester Premier Current account, and open it via Quidco so you get £50 cashback for opening it.

Then you can open an Alliance & Leicester Premier Regular Saver account to run alongside the current account. You can pay between 10 and £250 a month into this account from the Premier Current Account. For the first 12 months your interest on the account balance will be 12%.

Then open an Alliance & Leicester e-saver account through Quidco. You'll get £20 from Quidco for doing that. Just put £1 in the account and leave it there.

You might also consider a cash ISA for any remaining spare cash. That way you don't pay tax on interest. But the above 12% account easily beats an ISA for the period you're talking about.

How does all that sound for starters?

  • Thanks for the quick and comprehensive reply Steve!

Looks like quite a lot of work though!

Was hoping there would just be a savings account that I could open and put the cash in :)

OK well in that case try the ICICI Bank, Hi-Save account. Simple account, operated online and currently paying 6.41%.

Hey goody! You liked that did you? A nice little earner isn't it?
  • Fantastic,I use quidco already but just for the usual purchases etc, look at my sig.I hadnt tried using it to make cash like that.Thats a weeks earnings for 5 minutes work!!!Now all I have to do is remember to move my money around between the account for a few months to keep the £500 minimum going in monthly until they pay out on the cashback.
