Hi guys
Firstly im going to borough market tomorrow, anyone got any recommendations? Places to go or to avoid? Its ages since ive been and I will most certainly be buying a cake and a cheeky pork pie but im not sure what else to get.
Secondly I have a pack of diced wild boar and im not sure what to do with it. Ive googled it but theres very little inspiration. Has anyone got any good ideas for it?
Thanks peeps

Where is the borough market and what does it sell?0

Borough market is in borough, not a borough market. How confusing!
Its in borough in London, its the one they show on Masterchef semi finals night and where Gary Rhodes and Jamie Oliver shop. Ive never bought much there apart from lunch really. Its a food market with loads of stuff in, I just wish more of the traders had website so I could plan what I want to go and look at.0 -
Make sure you buy some cooking chorizo from Brindisa. It's the best you can buy anywhere!
Buy one of their grilled chorizo rolls to take away so you can try it, although you will have to queue for a while, it will be worth it!
You will then find yourself queueing up to buy some to take and cook at home.
As for the wild boar, you could use it in a ragu bolognese - in true italian fashion.0 -
Do you think the bolognaise would work with diced rather than minced?0

I love Borough market! I can recommend:
Organic wines
Great game
Organic sausages
Fantastic olive selections
Ostrich steak
Great bunches of flowers from the flower shop there - stunning and half the supermarket price.
Really fresh fruit and veg
Organic plant seeds
Bakery
and the free samples of course! Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I suupose it depends on how big the 'dice' are, really. You could always chop them down a bit if needed.
Itanlians call it ragu di cinghiale,
or a wild boar sauce is sugo di cinghiale
This recipe includes a wild boar sauce, with diced cinghiale, just use that as a starting point and pour the finished sauce over some pappardelle. Delicious!
I must stress however, thiat I've only ever bought the sauce / had it in resaurants though!
But it makes a brilliant ragu, a much deeper richer flavour than ordinary bolognese.0 -
Thanks Nikolai, its actually how I first had wild boar when I was in Italy and what made me buy it again.
angela - have you tried the ostrich? what is it like? Im interested in getting some game but a bit worried how much it will cost really.0 -
Oooh, I love Borough market
I can recommend the chocolate brownies and rye bread from Flour Power City Bakery, pork and bacon from the Ginger Pig, going to Neal's Yard Dairy for lots of samples (;)) and some great cheese, the fish and chips from 'Fish' (expensive, but soooo good), the fruit and veg from the stalls around the 'edge' of the market (I find the ones inside expensive, at the edge they have lots of offers) ...
Might have to pop down there myself0 -
