Its dam strange and I only know of this as I have a few biker pals that run sort of trackday only bikes, but on occaision do drive them to the track,

a) you can have a dylight mot ticket, ok, fine but

b) all rear facing lights have to be removed, ie, you can have no brake lights????? how counter survival is that?

Sorry coner but what you indicated is incorrect.

First post still stands

I am always open to be wrong, but on this I think I am correct, I think Conor and Derrick are incorrect. But there is one slight disagreement between you and me, I don't think it is required to remove all the lamps i.e. stop lamps, if you don't want to. Because what I just read says this (from another version of the MOT testers manual)

If no front or rear position lamps are fitted to a vehicle, there is no legal requirement to fit any other lamp.

It gives the impression that removing other lamps or fitting other lamps is entirely optional.

Fascinating stuff, Wig, never knew that. Are you sure that MOT testers manual isn't from 1939 ?

:rotfl: MOT was introduced in 1960 (I know you were joking)
So I wonder what the legal position would be if, for example, you set off on a motorway in perfect clear conditions, but the weather suddenly changed and the next exit is 15 miles away? Would it be permitted to park on the hard shoulder in those circumstances?
It's a good question, I think the safest thing to do would be to continue your journey until a safe place to stop (hard shoulder is not safe) could be reached.

Hi,You may well be right, not an expert on this, but you do not need to have brake lights on a daylight only vehicle??????????
Now that is clearly wrong
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

its not wrong atall, the ability to have no lights on vehicles is because hand signals are still a legal and acceptable way of giving signals.

But is it sensible? I don't think so.
Can anyone wind down thier window and give a signal before they hit the brakes in an emergency,

NO THEY CANT, just shows how stupid the laws can be.

…………….For the sill, prod around it make sure there is no more rust holes, then use two bits of wire gauze, put one inside the hole and one outside the hole tie them together with a bit wire and snip off the wire. then fill using body filler, and smooth and paint……….

and you can’t really repair sills with chicken wire and filler (at least not anymore)

We get alot of import vehicles in for MOT's and most of them come over without rear fog lights..... and therefore, fail the MOT.

Not sure where that leaves this no lights required discussion - just thought I'd add my halfpence :p:D

• Why do you need a car if you only drive two miles a day? Could you maybe walk, cycle, skatboard, jog? If you don't feel energetic why not take a taxi? I think if you worked it out it would be cheaper to taxi than to run a car.

I have seen many cars with rear fogs obviously added, so it should be possible for those cars to pass the MOT with a little work :)

You can if is not within 30 cm of a steering, suspension or seat belt mounting point. and if you do it good enough they might not spot it anyway.
