I'm glad you guys love the site, i know i PM'd a few people with site and i don't know if it was me who chatted to any of you on the boards but i'm glad you guys found it. Check out www.cookingbynumbers.com if you haven't already i thin it's great. if you think 'hmm, what can i cook with a carrot, beer and some vegetable oil?' you put in the items you have in your cupboard, hit enter and it gives you a list of recipes you can cook! It's great for the end of the week/month when food is running low.

Thats a great site! Will remember that one! :j
  • i read this and thought "oh no i shop online anyway i bet ive been throwing money away by using tescos". So I did my weekly shop online....a total of £52.04 from tesco with the next cheapest being Asda at £59.07 and sainsburys at £62! Shocking - glad i stopped shopping at Sainsburys, but seems tesco works out pretty darn good for me :)

i use this all the time, even if im not shopping online but going into store as it gives me a clear list and the expected total when i get the checkout!:D

One trick i found though - although can be a little time consuming.. is to get a proper comparison, dont rely on the website to compare for you!! Mad i know, as thats what its designed to do.... BUT ive found sometimes it selects alternatives that i wouldnt choose myself if i was doing my shopping in asda instead of tesco for example so it throws the comparison right out!

For example today i want to compare my shopping.... on my list is a pack of 6 white barm cakes... in sainsburys (my usual shop) it says 49p.. when i finished putting everything i "swapped" trollies to asda as it said it was cheaper....

BUT when i looked in the trolley they had chosen a pack of 4 crusty white barms as my alternative.... i dont like them and wouldnt have bought them! The 6 pack of large white barms which i WOULD have picked was 59p! so more expensive than my first choice of shop.... and this wasnt the only item

So my trick is to do your shop like normal and print the list or something so you dont lose it....... then "swap" supermarkets on the front page to shopping from the place they claim is the cheaper alternative and just check EXACTLY what they have put in your trolley as alternatives!

You may find not only do they not match the product like for like all the time... but sometimes they will give you a pricer alternative! I found sometimes when i just "compared" normally they were comparing value stuff from asda with sainsburys own label or premium range instead of their value version!! So although in the little box at the top asda LOOKED cheaper, when i actually went in and "shopped from sainsburys" and changed to the right product i.e. the value version, it worked out the same if not sometimes cheaper at the original place!

So yeah its a great site and can help you make BIG savings but be careful your not being lulled into a false sense of savings! :p

God! just read this post back and realised i REALLY need to get out more....... :rotfl:
  • oh im excited - u earn ipoints too! Not that i had heard of them before, but i guess they are just like piggy points? Looking fwd to building those up to use for Christmas then :D this is fab!
  • I agree with lilsmissemmylou, I found that shopping at tescos was 1st then Asda and Sainsburys came in at the most expensive. It really does open you eyes I now don't go to sainsburys down the road but travel about 5 miles to tescos I know it's more petrol but It is worth it. x x x x ;)
