MySupermarket - thanks

:T I don't remember who drew my attention to this website but I just want to say a big thank you to them!!! :D

I just did a hyperthetical shop at Asda was able to compare it with Tesco and Sainsburys - what a shock    .
Tesco was around £12 dearer and Sainsburys nearly £25. Granted some of the items I "purchased" were special offers, but not many.

Anyway, whoever it was, thanks ever so :A

I've found that not only are Asda cheaper than Tesco but their own brand and cheapo value range are far far better quality.

  • i always do my shopping list on the asda website.. then i somtimes compare it to the tesco one.. asda is so much more cheaper i think, but its amazing how much you would be spending without realiseing if you didnt compare first isnt it

I don't like going to supermarkets and Asda don't do internet shopping in my area. Going there is a pain as it is in the centre of town and I have to faf about paying for parking and claiming it back.

Tesco not only does internet shopping, but also is easy to go to as I can park without problems, it is five minutes away and an easy drive.

I go to Tesco. I would try Asda if they did internet shopping.

I don't like Sainsbury's, I would rather drive to a nearby town and go to Waitrose, it takes about the same time. Shopping there is such a great experience it is worth the extra.

    So, for me it's Tesco's.

I tried this site and had mixed feelings about it.

On the plus side i loved the way they present the shopping. Nice big images with lots of information etc made shopping a breeze and incredibly relaxed (the big supermarkets should take note on how well this is all presented). I also loved the comparison between the shop your currently filling your basket with and others and loved the calories and fat for your shop info.

However what concerned me was that they don't, regardless of what they say, carry the full range that your online shop does (for instance Chorizo sausage rings and some of the tesco brand crisps that are available from my local online tesco could not be found in MySupermarket.com).

More importantly was their price compare. Add something thats tesco brand to your shopping basket (i.e. value bananas, pears and apples) then switch to ASDA and they have big red crosses in them (understandable) but with no replacement (i.e. ASDA's own brands replacements) so how does it compare these prices effectively and more important offer the solutions to online shopping it states ?

If you click a tesco brand for more information it very often shows a N/A price comparison between that and other shops. Also weight on some products. It didn't allow you to select a weight, just an amount, so silverside beef immediately went to 1.2kg where in tesco you can select the kg you require and be priced accordingly.

This had me running as I would have thought it would compare like for like and present those alternatives to the consumer as well as give the flexible degrees of produce bought as your local online supermarket.

Great idea but because of that i dare not use them :(

Or have i missed something important here that solves all this ?

I disagree - when I switched between them, I always found the comparable products replaced with alternatives....

I found to my delight that my waitrose shop is cheaper than sainsburys and tesco (no Asda near us) so I now get all my shopping from Ocado.

Also, the delivery charge is a lot cheaper and the customer experience 10 times better.

And I get ipoints. I mean I think the site is genius!

Mmmm that's bizarre. I've just tried it again and had exactly the same result. In fact there was 14 items in my basket that didn't have an alternative when switched and these were basics like value packs of pears, banana, apples etc, in fact anything with a Tesco name on it did not have an alternative Asda counterpart it would seem :(

    Ah an update.

What i was doing was going immediately to the trolley after switching and seeing the big red X on unavailable products with no replacement..

However if you go to the Checkout with trolley checker there you can choose the replacement. I didn't know this, doh :)

So all i need do now is work out why some products are unavailable and i'll be happy :)

I tried this with a mainly organic shopping list, to see how much it was costing, and Ocado was cheaper than Sainsburies! Hurrah- I can be posh.....!! :o)

I'm glad you guys love the site, i know i PM'd a few people with site and i don't know if it was me who chatted to any of you on the boards but i'm glad you guys found it. Check out www.cookingbynumbers.com if you haven't already i thin it's great. if you think 'hmm, what can i cook with a carrot, beer and some vegetable oil?' you put in the items you have in your cupboard, hit enter and it gives you a list of recipes you can cook! It's great for the end of the week/month when food is running low.
