CH - free - old computers, tables, chairs, desks

I've been asked by my daughter's school to co-ordinate the clearing out of a large shed full of furniture and equipment no longer needed by the school in Harpenden, Herfordshire.
There's about 15 old RM computers and monitors (10+ years old), desks, tables, wooden school chairs, coat stands (around 20 years old) and doors all about to be taken to the tip (deadline 1st week November) if I can't find anyone who would like them and take them away.
Can anyone give me any clues as to how I can find them a good home? We've thought of setting light to them for bonfire night, but they're really too solid and it seems a pity to see them go to waste.
Thanks

Do you have a local scrapstore or furniture recycling project or computer recycling project? Your local council should have a recycling adviser somewhere in with refuse disposal so a call to them might be worthwhile.
Getting rid of monitors often incurs a charge round here (Bristol) although other bits of dead / obsolete computer are often given a new lease of life and collected for free, although at 10+ years old I wouldn't like to guarantee that.
http://www.inkinddirect.org.uk/ may be able to help but I wouldn't hold your breath ...
Also if you've got a minute to do a search on this bit of the board for references to computer recycling I think you might find some national organisations we highlighted a while back.
Hope some of this helps!
Oh, and beware if you do use any of it for the bonfire. Don't put any computer bits on, obviously, but also remember that any glass (panels in doors) or metal (door hinges, handles etc) won't burn and you'll be left with a hazardous mess in the ashes - sharp bits etc. Our school found out the hard way ;D with a few redundant doors ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
The computer museum* at Bletchley Park may well take one of the RM's off your hands.

These people are in Brighton, and there's another project in Bristol. Now I know that's a fair way from you, but might be worth asking if they know of anyone more local!Signature removed for peace of mind0
