Car Insurance ’One year’s cover free’

Alliance & Leicester Plc are offering ’One year’s cover free’

http://www.alliance-leicester.co.uk/insurance/index.asp?page=car-insurance&ct=inshome

’One year’s cover free’ would be for the year from your next renewal date and would only apply if we cannot beat your existing renewal quote, and excludes existing Alliance & Leicester Car Insurance customers. In addition, this offer relates to like for like cover on equivalent terms to your renewal notice only and is subject to a minimum £100 damage and theft excess and a minimum renewal premium (£194 comprehensive and £95 non-comprehensive). Subject to our insurer’s normal underwriting criteria. Excludes optional extras e.g. legal expenses and breakdown cover. This offer can be withdrawn at any time. A copy of your renewal invitation or notice from your previous insurer will be required. In the event that the above terms and conditions are met, and we are unable to beat your existing renewal quote, the free cover would be provided when you take out the policy with Equity Insurance Brokers Ltd and will be by way of a cheque to the value of the annual premium charged, payable to the policy holder. The free cover will apply to the first year’s premium only.

I think I read somewhere else that it is impossible to get the free year.

Well thats me convinced, it must a lie. Granted it is stupid because all they have to do is keep lowering until theyre under your renewel. Only someone who's insurance is a penny is going to get it free.

Makes sense, surely if your renewal comes in at £220, and their quote is £221, it's going to work out a damn sight cheaper for them to beat your quote (quoting £21, costing them £2) than paying your premium for a year (costing them £221)...

So erm basically make up your renewal quote ;)
  • A copy of your renewal invitation or notice from your previous insurer will be required.

So making it up wouldn't be an option, unless you're going to forge the renewal notice.

I think they mean it's needed to claim the free year?

Hopefully someone else will know though, but if it is only needed for the free year you could just keeep lowering the renewal quote till the site says it is unable to quote or whatever.

It's questionnable I agree, but it makes them reduce their quote in your favour. If they don't require proof to give you a quote and buy a policy at a price cheaper than your renewal that's their problem.
